Banner advertising, if done correctly, can be a cost effective and easy way to promote your business to a large audience and draw in sales.
Two of the most effective materials on which to print the graphics for your advertisement are PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) and vinyl. The benefit of using PVC or vinyl banners is that they are remarkably resilient, resisting chemical and weather damage. PVC banners also come in a variety of weights, depending on the size of the sign you wish to use.
Another advantage to using PVC or vinyl banners is that most companies which manufacture the banners will have a design department which will be able to take an original design of your own and turn basic graphics and text into something more striking using digital rendering, which provides your company with a wide range of possibilities when it come to finding the right design.
In terms of appearance, the colours used to produce and print PVC and vinyl banners are UV protected to help reduce fading when exposed to daily sunlight, an important factor when planning to display the banner outdoors, particularly for an extended length of time.
PVC banners can be produced in several different types: back lit, front lit, and block out styles. The back lit banner, as the name suggests, uses the line behind it to illuminate the sign, and are made of special materials which will catch the viewers eye. Front lit banners are illuminated by the light shining on the banner these are the banners you will usually see on billboards. Block out banners, usually seen at trade shows or used for other promotions, are usually made using grommets so that they can be hung rather than mounted on a frame and are generally not lit up, however they are made of materials which are durable and opaque.
There are many guidelines around on how to maximise the effectiveness of your banners. The first is to use a headline rather than the company name. Make it intriguing so that the audiences attention is immediately drawn in. The second is to make the images and the text simple. The range of possibilities out there in terms of graphic production is virtually limitless, but try not to get carried away. Just because flowery script might look effective on paper, doesnt necessarily mean it will be legible to someone passing by on the street. With this in mind, try to keep colours to a limit of two or three and the sign will be simple, beautiful and effective rather than overpoweringly garish (Unless that is the look you are going for)additionally, simpler images tend to look better when reproduced in a large format whereas small details can tend to get lost in the mix.
Visibility is an obvious consideration when designing the banners for your company. Ideally, they should be big big enough to be noticed quickly and read easily. Take into account the location of the banner is it likely to be seen by a lot of people? What is the competition like in terms of advertising? Also consider font size, and distance. Many websites offering services which help companies to use this method of advertising have a sign visibility chart on which measures up the font against the distance from the sign.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, is the cost factor. Banner advertising promotes businesses to a wide audience using minimal marketing tools at very little cost always something worth considering.
